Elmore Estate Access Statement
We at Elmore Estate are committed to making sure everyone who visits us has the best experience possible. Below is information about accessibility at Elmore Court, our historic house and events venue, and at Elmore Wild, our treehouses and rewilding project on the wider estate. Please do call or email us should you have any questions, feedback, or feel there is anywhere we could do better.
Prior to your arrival
Enquiries and reservations can be made by telephone, email or via our website. Should you require a taxi to the venue from Gloucester Station (a 10-minute drive), Bristol Airport (a 1-hour drive) or Heathrow Airport (a 1¾-hour drive), we use a reliable local taxi company and would be delighted to book one for you. They have access to vehicles suitable for wheelchairs on request.
Arriving at Elmore Court
Our main car park is about 100m from the buildings and involves some steps. If needed, you can be dropped at the front of the house, or you may leave a vehicle parked on the drive tucked under the Copper Beech Tree — please just let us or your host know in advance, as cars in front of the house can affect the look of the setting for other guests. There is a sign as you enter the premises reading “EVERYONE! Please park in car park on right” — please ignore this if you need to make alternative arrangements.
Due to the historic nature of the house, and to preserve its heritage and character, we are not able to offer full and total access for all areas.
Wheelchair access
The main entrance to the ground floor of the house is accessed by steps, and we do not have fully compliant, permanent wheelchair access. If you use a wheelchair or similar, entry is still possible: we have a tried-and-tested temporary ramp that we can install. Please note the ramp does not have handrails, requires assistance to use, and has a gradient of 9.8° (a ratio of roughly 1 in 5.79, or 17.27%), which is below normal regulatory standards — we offer it as a better option than none at all. Please contact us in advance with any questions.
The main door leads straight into the main hall, with no further steps or obstructions on the ground floor, which includes a WC with handrails and an 800mm door width. The bedrooms in the main house are accessed by stairs only and are, unfortunately, not accessible to wheelchair users.
The Coach House has a ground-floor bedroom and a WC with handrails; however, its doors and passages require a wheelchair no wider than 700mm. Please note the Coach House is not normally available to guests on the night of a wedding, though we are happy to discuss this on enquiry.
The Gillyflower, our dinner and dancing venue, has full access for all, with full disabled facilities.
In an emergency
Our fire alarm system uses bells and does not have flashing lights. Assistance is given if evacuation is necessary, and disabled or elderly guests are highlighted on our daily reports so that our team is aware of their location and can prioritise their evacuation if needed.
Animals
Service dogs are always welcome. Pet dogs and other animals are welcome by prior arrangement only.
Elmore Wild
Elmore Wild activities — including guided walks, treehouse stays and wild swimming — take place across the wider Elmore Estate landscape, much of which has natural, unsurfaced and variable terrain as part of an actively rewilding site. We are happy to talk through the accessibility of a specific activity, trail or treehouse before you book, so please contact us in advance and we will do our best to help you plan your visit.
One of our treehouses, Sky, has been designed to be fully accessible for wheelchair users. Its accessible design has been carefully balanced against the aesthetic character of the treehouse, so if you have any questions or concerns about whether it will suit your needs, please do contact us in advance and we will be happy to talk this through with you.
Elmore Rise
Elmore Rise, our wellness and nature-based retreat project, is currently in development. Further information, including accessibility details, will be published here as the project progresses — please contact us in the meantime with any questions.
Feedback
We have tried to be as accurate as possible and included as much detail as we can in this Access Statement. We welcome your feedback to help us continuously improve the information we provide.
