The Grounds

Part of the wider Elmore Estate, Elmore Court is located in a very special part of England. Nestled in a bend of the River Severn in Gloucestershire, north of the Severn Vale, it’s a hidden gem in the heart of the English countryside.

At Elmore Court, nature and landscape are all around you. Our grounds include farmland, woodlands, wetlands and a dedicated rewilding project, as well as the beautiful lawns and gardens of our historic house.

Over the centuries, the Guises have maintained a special relationship with the land; looking after the grounds and preserving the spirit of the place for future generations. Today, we’re using the land to produce food. We’re managing our woodlands to provide sustainable fuel for our heating. And, through our rewilding efforts, we’re helping to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises.

The Elmore Court gardens are a compelling blend of history, nature and design. From ancient trees and wildflowers to manicured lawns and kitchen gardens, they offer visual delight and a connection to the estate’s history.

Many parts of the gardens now provide fresh produce for our kitchens, bringing a truly sustainable field-to-fork experience to Elmore events and weddings. Some of our guests also choose to hold their ceremonies outdoors, surrounded by nature and greenery.

It’s said the Elmore Court gardens inspired the composer Hubert Parry, who played on these lawns as a child. Parry’s time at Elmore is thought to have influenced his stirring orchestration of William Blake’s poem, Jerusalem. And while not everyone who visits our gardens is moved to compose beautiful music of enduring national importance, the majority do leave deeply touched by the experience.  

At Elmore Court, we proudly harness renewable energy and source sustainable materials from our very own woodlands.

Our harvested timber is chipped and burned in a state-of-the-art biomass boiler, which is housed in a beautifully designed timber-framed building crafted in partnership with Sustainable Energy LTD. This boiler generates sustainable hot water and heating across the estate. We also use our woodland timber for various building projects – for example, the construction of The Gillyflower and the boiler house and general Elmore Court maintenance.

To balance what we take from the land, we’ve planted an additional 25 acres of new woodland and have plans to expand further, reinforcing our commitment to hosting environmentally friendly weddings and events.
