The Story of the Gillyflower

The Gillyflower has been a key part of the Elmore experience since 2013, when Elmore Court reopened as a dedicated wedding and events venue. The cornerstone of Anselm’s vision for the future of the estate, The Gillyflower was conceived as a place for music, dancing, celebration and joy.

But from the beginning, we knew that a traditional canvas marque would never do. Given our location in this quiet corner of rural England, we wanted our guests to be able to celebrate without causing any disturbance. We wanted a space that could host lively weddings and events; where people would be free to make as much noise as they like.

So, using Elmore soil and timber, we devised a ‘rammed earth’ wall structure to create the mass and density needed to keep sound locked in. We also created a meadow roof, which boosts biodiversity and blends seamlessly with the surrounding fields, plus large windows that provide sweeping views of the Gloucestershire countryside.

It’s a magical setting for luxury weddings and events. And it works! Even with our speakers turned up full volume, there is zero sound transmission to the outside world. While our guests party into the night, our neighbours can sleep soundly and the birds and beasts of Elmore Estate remain undisturbed.

We wanted The Gillyflower to provide everything people need for a joyful celebration or event. With capacity for up to 200 people, it has a dining area, fully serviced bar and dancefloor, allowing for live music, DJ sets and dancing, whatever the volume.  

At the heart of The Gillyflower experience is our state-of-the-art sound system, designed by Funktion One. This remarkable audio technology produces the cleanest and clearest sound you’ll ever hear – whether for subtle background music or a full-on dancefloor experience.

The LED lighting system is cutting-edge too, with a ‘lightshower’ installed by internationally renowned lighting artist, Bruce Monro. Helping to modulate the energy and atmosphere, our discreet, mood-controlled luminaires transform the venue into a visually immersive environment. We also provide two radio microphones, a PA, tables, chairs and pretty much anything else you require to make your event run smoothly.

Crucially, The Gillyflower is a sustainable venue, built using eco-friendly methods and materials from the estate. It is also powered by green energy and integrates harmoniously with the natural landscape.

Which means our guests can party, with the planet smiling at them.
